Back in its early days the Huawei mate series was all about two things a giant over-the-top display and a giant over-the-top battery the big surprise of the Mate 20 launch event in London recently was a device that brings it back to those two core features and to such something that feels like a bit of a blast from the past this is the Huawei mate 20x it's roughly the size of a dinner plate and has a battery big enough for almost a full day.

It's the device that gave us the word phablets all those years ago this thing is still a phone but only barely and it's borderline excessive size brings with it some unique benefits that you won't find even in a relatively large phone like the standard Huawei mate 20 here are your two key numbers a 7.2  display and a 5000 milliamp-hour battery physically the mate 20x is essentially a blown-up regular Mate 20 with all the same design traits flat display do topnotch and rear fingerprint scanner using this thing in one hand is at best challenging and at worst basically impossible even the rear fingerprint scanner requires a fair bit of manual dexterity to reach all the way up there the eternal specs land somewhere between the regular Mate 20 and Mate 20 pro the display resolution is only full HD plus.

But it's an OLED panel with fantastic colors and ample brightness and you get the very best triple camera setup from the pro not the trimmed-down version of the standard Mate 20 that's 40 megapixels plus 20 plus 8 for your standard ultrawide and telephoto cameras a few of the fancier features from the pro have been dropped including a 3d face unlock system in screen fingerprints and 40 watts supercharging the ex-uses the old twenty 2.5 watt charger which is still pretty fast and allows Huawei to aim fora higher battery capacity in this model and the IP writing also takes a hit the Mate 2ex-has an IP 53 rating which means that if it does take a dunk in the water you'll want to get it out of there pretty quickly of course in return for this you get a much bigger battery and is displayed with only a tiny little notch.

So while we is pushing this as advice for business professionals anyone who watches a lot of media on their phone and in particular gamers that's a bit of a weird cross-section but it kind of makes sense that's because in addition to the same powerful carrying 980 processor found in the other two mate 20 models there's a new cooling system in this phone combining a vapor chamber and graph film improved cooling of course lets the mate 20 X run at full throttle for longer and in turn the bigger battery can provide the power to do so that all adds up to a total continuous gameplay time of more than six and a half hours from this phone which is pretty impressive when you consider how some games can quickly tank a normal phone’s battery if you're not taxing it quite.

So much you're looking at 23 hours of continuous video playback which is to say this phone will almost certainly last longer between recharges than you will the software here is extremely familiar the same etui 9 experience you got any of the other Mate 20 phones based on Android 9 PI and it fits a larger display well especially if you enable the optional gesture controls you can do everything you do on a standard smartphone only the extremely large display lets you see more and do more it really does feel a lot like using a mate7 or mate 8 only with the entire front surface filled out with pure screen whereas phones like that mate 20 prove taken the specs and power we expect from a mate and crammed them into more pocket-friendly sizes the Mate 20x rethinks what's possible in a phone if we stay at that gigantic size and just fill out that space with screen and technology there in our Western launch plans for the mate 20x so you'll likely need to import one from Asia.
